Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Celebrates UHC Day With Massive Open Day Event
The Western Regional Hospital, Effia Nkwanta is joining the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s Universal Health Coverage Day with the first-ever Open Day event in the hospital’s history. The event slated on the 9th of December is on the theme ‘Leave no one’s health behind; invest in health systems for all ’.
The Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital is committed to the vision of the theme and has made some great strides towards that. The Open Day event is in part to showcase how the hospital, over the past two years, has tremendously increased the availability of quality and affordable healthcare services in the South Western corridor of Ghana.
Regardless of the duly acknowledged infrastructural constraints for which a re-development and upgrade are proposed and also in difficult times of public health financing, management and staff of the Hospital (with support of individuals, churches and corporate bodies) strive to serve a mission to provide access and availability of quality healthcare in a humane and friendly manner.
Over the past two years, the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital has introduced a fully set up renal unit with specialized staff. The Hospital has also trained selected staff for a soon to be opened Intensive Care Unit. The Hospital now provides a good range of diagnostic and endoscopy services for which clients previously struggled to find and has added to its range of specialists. The new range of healthcare services in the Hospital shall be part of the Open Day massive exhibition of pharmaceutical, insurance products that will take place from the forecourt of the Central Pharmacy area spanning across Blood Bank to the new Psychology Unit.

A number of activities have been lined up for the Open Day. The eve of the event which is on the 8TH of December will be the final preparations and set-up of the exhibition. The actual day which is on the 9TH of December will commence with a short opening ceremony at the Hospital Foyer which will be attended by specially invited guests. The Western Regional Minister will be the Guest-of-honour. Meanwhile, exhibitors would be ready to receive visitors from 7 AM to 5 PM.
There would be free OPD Consultation, screening activities, such as prostate, cervical, breast, ENT, eye and many more. There would also be expert health education and important health tit-bits. The general public will also have an opportunity to engage with health staff and build relationships. We encourage members of the general public to take advantage of the Open Day to donate blood to save a life.
There will be a playground and oral screening for children. The Nursing and Midwives Training School will have representatives who will also interact with children and parents and update them about nursing education in Ghana. A special surgical set up to give children hands-on experience in surgery will be present.
